Project Description
Asia Jungle World/
Animal Habitats
Bronx Zoo
Jungle world is recognized as the ultimate in total immersion habitats. The synthesis of living and simulated plants, water features, brilliantly executed rockwork, painted backgrounds, and sound effects combine to create a seamless natural ambiance for visitors and animals alike. The design orchestrates the visitor experience, making the architecture disappear.
Animal containment and management issues required the design of invisible barriers that put the visitor into the scene while keeping magnificent, adventurous animals in the field of view.
Extensive use of scale models helped refine these stunning tropical settings and diligent field art direction was required to produce these award-winning, theatrical living habitats:
Komodo Monitor Gully
Proboscis Monkey Mangrove
Languor and Clouded Leopard
Banyan Grove
Gibbon Cloud Forest
Gavial Stream
Designed in collaboration with Exhibit Department staff
